Western Kenya Schools Get New Leaders as TSC Reshuffles 23 Principals
In a move designed to bring fresh leadership and perspectives to schools across the region, the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) recently announced the reassignment of principals for twenty-three secondary schools within Kenya’s Western Region. This reshuffle comes just ahead of the upcoming school reopening, and aims to strategically place experienced leaders to optimize school performance.
- Simon Chimuche: The principal of Muhudumu Secondary School will now take the helm at Kivaywa High School in Matete Sub-county.
- Shifting Landscape in Bungoma County: Benard Wamanga, the current principal of Bokoli Boys High School, will move within the county to lead a different school, Bokoli Boys High School. Musonye Namusinde, previously at Bokoli Boys, will head Ingotse Boys High School in Kakamega County.
- New Leaders for Established Schools: Laban Sikolia, formerly the principal of Lukhuna Friends Secondary School, will now lead Shamberere Secondary School. Pamela Mumia has been appointed Principal of St. Paul’s Lubinu Girls High School, taking over from Evelyne Vuhyah.
The reshuffle also affects several other schools. Joseph Buluma will transfer from Matisi Secondary in Trans Nzoia to Lusumu Secondary. Lucy Awuor, Principal of St Mary’s Emusambe Secondary School, will move to ACK Milimani Girls High School. The full list of reassignments includes principals from St. Stephen’s Mulwanda, Shibale Secondary, Sigalame Secondary, Lukume Secondary, Enjinja Secondary, Kimang’eti Boys High School, St. Mark’s Bukire Secondary School, and Emwiru Mixed Secondary School.
This administrative action by the TSC has generated mixed reactions. While some see it as a positive step to bring new ideas and leadership styles to the schools, others express concerns about potential disruption during a crucial time in the academic calendar. Regardless, the reassignments are likely to bring about changes in the leadership structures of many Western Region secondary schools as they prepare for the new term.
