Spatial Data Analyst
The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Extraction of built-up areas and open spaces from satellite imagery.
- Digitization of public transport stops from various open data sources.
- Collection of data from various national statistical offices and other verified sources and assessing its correctness and authenticity before it is integrated into the urban indicators database.
- Contributing to the development of tools and executable programmes for spatial data analysis.
Qualifications/special skills
- A High school diploma or equivalent is required. Additional training in remote sensing, geographic information systems, urban planning, geography or any other closely related field is highly desired.
- At least 3 years’ experience working on spatial data analysis, image interpretation, data extraction from satellite imagery and maps creation and digitization.
- High proficiency in Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing software (egs ArcGIS, ArcGIS online, QGIS, ErdasImagine, ENVI, Google Earth Engine) is required.
- Experience working as a spatial data analyst is desirable. Knowledge of and experience working with the SDGs is highly desirable.
- Knowledge in GIS relevant programming skills, geostatistical workflows and GIS online systems is desirable

Sustainable Transport Engineer/ Consultant
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Conduct research and analysis to develop knowledge material and support the preparation of the project that promote electric and smart mobility as an agent for sustainable and inclusive cities and gender empowerment.
- Support African cities on the development of Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan and/or Active Mobility Plan
- Conduct research on climate resilient road and transport systems design and prepare knowledge piece or technical material.
Qualifications/special skills
- Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Transport planning, Transport Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Urban planning, or a related field is required; or A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted instead of the advanced university degree.
- At least 2 years of relevant work experience is required. Experience electric mobility is an asset.
- Good project cycle coordination and management skills covering project design, implementation and monitoring is required.
- An understanding of electric mobility, transport engineering, urban planning, urban development, urban policy and legislation and sustainable urbanisation.
- Knowledge of the engineering design process, smart cities or urban indicators is an asset.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills is required.
- The ability to draft a wide selection of written communication and to articulate ideas in a clear and concise manner. Research skills, particularly in the technology field, are an asset.
- Good interpersonal skills, previous exposure to cross cultural environments is advantageous.
- Ability to work well in a team whilst also having the capacity and initiative to work independently is required.
- Knowledge of the UN, including working experience in a developing country and working experience with the UN (work within the UN, or working with UN agencies and programmes) are assets.
Intern – Project Administrative Support
Responsibilities
- Under the direct supervision of the Human Settlements Officer/ Project Manager for PINUA the Intern will undertake the responsibilities as outlined below:
- Support in the general administrative operations and coordinate as appropriate with other UN-Habitat staff and departments.
- Scheduling project meetings schedule, in relation to the program and handling relating correspondence.
- Support project financial management and reporting by reviewing and consolidating field reports in areas of direct and indirect implementation.
- Support in updating and monitoring of various trackers e.g., procurement, travel, recruitment and cash advance.
- Support with travel logistics arrangements e.g., flight bookings, car hire and accommodation booking.
- Support in the organization of meetings, trainings and conferences including liaison with participants, conducting site visits, and assisting with writing minutes.
- Provide assistance in the clearance and approval of legal documents such as Agreements of Cooperation applicable in the implementation of the project activities.
- Responsible for the project documentation process, to facilitate the development of the PINUA Knowledge Management Hub.
- Support in the quality assurance of submitted reporting documents by Implementing Partners.
- With the support of the ICTS office, assist in leveraging project automation, managing share drive information, electronic reporting templates, setting up on new user accounts, laptop assignment and troubleshooting of system and network problems.
- Maintain orderly records and files on on-going projects and project/programme.
Qualifications/special skills
- Applicants must at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
- Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher),
- Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent),
- Have graduated with Bachelor’s degree, Masters, PhD or equivalent. Be computer literate in standard software applications (Microsoft Office Suite).
- Have demonstrated a keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
- Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which includes a willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Preferred areas of study: Undergraduate in Social Science, Development Studies, Project Management and Business Administration or related field.
- Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience.
- However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
- Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Ph.D. Programme.
