KDF unveils funeral plans for soldiers killed in chopper crash. Requiem mass is set to be held at the Moi Airbase, Eastleigh in Nairobi, today.
In a solemn event marked by grief and remembrance, the nation mourns the loss of two military officers who tragically perished in a chopper crash in Elgeyo Marakwet. The fallen heroes, Colonel Duncan Keitany and Major George Magondu, will be laid to rest today in their respective rural homes, where family, friends, and colleagues will gather to bid them farewell.
Major George Magondu, a skilled pilot, will be buried at his Karemeno home in Kieni, Nyeri. Meanwhile, Colonel Duncan Keitany, who held a pivotal role in operations at Defence headquarters, will be honored in a funeral service at Saos village, Eldana Ravine in Baringo. The Kenya Defence Forces, in a display of unwavering support, have released a schedule to ensure that the final rites for these brave soldiers are conducted with utmost respect and accordance with their wishes.
The tragic crash also claimed the lives of Sergeant Rose Nyawira and Senior Sergeant John Mureithi, who were laid to rest earlier this week. Sergeant Nyawira, a talented photographer attached to the CDF press unit, was buried at her Kagio home in Kirinyaga, while Senior Sergeant Mureithi, an Air technician at the Moi Airbase, found his final resting place in his Kirimunge home in the Kanyeki location.
The sacrifices made by these courageous individuals resonate deeply within the military community and beyond. Lieutenant Colonel David Sawe, an officer overseeing works maintenance at the Defence headquarters, will be remembered in a solemn ceremony at his Kapkorio home, Sarora location in Nandi on April 30. Similarly, Sergeant Cliphonce Omondi, a dedicated security officer attached to the CDF, will be laid to rest on May 3 at his Ndiwo home in West Alego, Siaya.
The funeral of Captain Hillary Litali, who served as the Aide-de-Camp to the late Chief of Defence Forces General Francis Ogolla, is scheduled for May 11 at Ndalu scheme in Tongaren, Bungoma. Each of these fallen heroes played a unique and vital role in serving their country with honor and dedication, leaving behind a legacy of bravery and selflessness that will be forever cherished.
