Internship Background

UNHCR works to ensure that everybody has the right to seek asylum and find safe refuge, having fled violence, persecution, war, or disaster at home. UNHCR operates in 135 countries, with staff based in a mixture of regional and branch offices and sub and field offices.

The Division of Emergency, Security and Supply is responsible for providing strategic direction, support, and oversight to regional and country offices in relation to emergency preparedness and response, supply chain management, and the security of staff and persons of concern.

The Emergency Policy and Capacity Development Section organizes capacity development courses in consultation with Regional Bureaux, the Global Data Service and the eCentre. The goal is to prepare UNHCR staff, affiliate workforce personnel and partner staff of governments and NGOs, so that they have adequate capabilities to respond effectively to an emergency deployment

Duties and Responsibilities

    • ï‚· Contribute to the development of written materials, guides, reports, presentations, job aids and other materials as needed for capacity development purposes.
    • ï‚· Support the coordination of learning activities including technical support for webinars and administrative support for in-person workshops.
    • ï‚· Provide support for the assessment and analysis of learning needs, learning methodologies,
  • development, delivery, and evaluation of learning activities as appropriate.
  • ï‚· Contribute to the maintenance and replenishment of the section’s educational materials.
  • ï‚· Provide general administrative support for the section, including organization of meetings, meeting
  • minutes, drafting correspondence, etc.
  • ï‚· Provide support in organizing and archiving the section’s digital material.
  • ï‚· Ad hoc tasks as per the section’s needs and the intern’s interests

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

In order to be considered for an internship, candidates must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • ï‚· To be considered eligible for an internship, the following criteria must be fulfilled: (a. Be a recent graduate 2 or current student in a graduate/undergraduate school program from a university or higher education facility accredited by UNESCO; and (b. Have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies in a field relevant or of interest to the work of the Organization.
  • ï‚· Fluency in English is a requirement and another UN language desirable.
  • ï‚· Knowledge and experience in computer science, data visualization, or administration will be desirable.
  • ï‚· Analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • ï‚· Ability to work independently in a multi-cultural environment.
  • ï‚· Good computer skills. Proficiency in MS Word and MS Excel is a requirement.
