The World Bank’s Macroeconomics, Trade and Investment team for Ukraine is delivering a broad work program that encompasses analytical work on macroeconomic monitoring, economic growth, and fiscal policy. The team is also responsible for delivering policy-based budget support operations and to provide just-in-time analytical inputs as well as technical assistance. Considering an expanding work program, the team is recruiting an experienced economist to represent the team in Kyiv and act as a core team member for delivering the work program.
The successful candidate is expected to undertake the following tasks:
• Act as a local focal point for the Country Management Unit and technical-level clients in Ukraine.
• Establish a network and build relationships with clients, think tanks, and other economic policy stakeholders in Ukraine.
• Contribute to regular macroeconomic monitoring, including by updating economic projections and preparing a bi-weekly newsletter of important developments.
• Closely monitoring economic developments in Ukraine, including data releases, policy initiatives, and the overall economic discourse, and report in frequent informal updates to the broader team.
• Maintain databases of public economic indicators and evaluate data accessibility and quality for non-public data sources.
• Lead in the coordination of agendas and meetings for visiting missions.
• Contribute as needed to programmatic and just-in-time analytical and lending work.
• Address institutional requests on data review and data collections.
• Support other Global Practices on selected tasks, as needed.
Selection Criteria
The successful candidate is expected to have the following qualifications:
• A master’s degree in economics (PhD preferred), with at least [3] years of relevant profession experience.
• Written and spoken fluency in Ukrainian and English.
• Excellent writing and data analysis skills.
• Proficiency in excel, word, and specialized data analysis software (Stata, EViews, R, etc.).
• Willingness to work in-person from the World Bank’s Kyiv office.
• Strong teamwork skills and ability and willingness to communicate clearly and proactively within the team.
